History of the WI
The Women's Institute Movement in Britain started in 1915. During the First World War it was formed to encourage countrywomen to get involved in growing and preserving food to help to increase the supply of food to the war-torn nation
Closely associated with agriculture and rural communities from the outset, the WI developed over the course of the twentieth century to become involved with numerous projects and its appeal expanded to urban areas. This expansion has evolved into the modern exciting Ferndown branch of the WI that is Absolutely WI.
